This year’s Exercise Right Week theme is ‘Motivation to Move‘! The 2018 campaign is all about inspiring those who don’t exercise to move more and demonstrate to all Australians the importance of seeking the right exercise expert for their requirements and engaging in the right exercise for them.

Get motivated to move now!

Below are 10 great reasons why moving is so important for your health and wellbeing and some tips to help you and your family to get moving more every day!

10 benefits of physical activity:

1)Boosts memory

2) Aids weight loss

3) Prevents illness

4) Helps to quit smoking

5) Improves depression and anxiety

6) Reduces risk of falls

7) Increases longer life

8) Prevents some cancers

9) Enhances strength

10) Reduces risk of heart disease

Just move more! There are lots of fun and easy ways to integrate the “move more” philosophy into your everyday routine. See below some quick tips.:

Work out at work.

Add some healthy activity to your work day. Take 10-minute walking breaks, schedule walking meetings when possible, do some yoga or stretching during downtime, or walk to a nearby restaurant for lunch instead of driving.

Schedule it.

Having trouble making time for physical activity? Set an alarm on your phone or schedule it on your calendar – and treat it like any other important appointment.

Take the stairs.

Choose to take the stairs instead of the lift, even if only for a floor or two. You may huff and puff at first, but over time, your body will thank you.

Go mobile.

Need to catch up on phone calls? Why not walk and talk –around the block, on a treadmill or around your workplace.

Join a team.

Team sports can be a fun way and social way to increase your physical activity level.

Buddy up.

Find a physical activity accountability partner. Your spouse or a colleague who always holds you to your deadlines can also help you reach your fitness goals.

Fitness first for the family.

Shake up your family’s after-school/after-work routine. Join your kids for a bike ride or shoot some hoops before starting on homework and chores. You’ll all feel better and think better!

Freeze the screens.

Instead of heading right for the TV and couch after dinner, make that family activity time. Take a walk, practice a sport, or play a game of tag or hide-and-seek.

Be an active parent.

Experts say that what kids want more than anything else is time with their parents. To give them that, don’t just send them out to play — go play with them!

Do something you love.

Find activities that fit your personality and motivate you to stick with them. There is significantly more chance you will continue with an activity if you enjoy it.
