The management team at Tuggerah Family Practice have many years of experience dealing with the various Australian government and medical agencies and can help guide Overseas Trained Doctors (also called International Medical Graduates - IMGs) through the complex process involved in applying for work as a general practitioner at a private practice in NSW, Australia.
We are looking for great doctors and can help overseas trained physicians relocate to Australia and will assist you with everything required, from Medical Board registration to sponsorship & visa coordination.
OTD Checklist - Am I eligible to work in Australia?
Generally, any Overseas Trained Doctor wishing to work in Australia will need to meet the following basic requirements:
- Satisfy the English Language proficiency requirements - see National English Language Proficiency Policy
- Identify an appropriate job in a designated "Area of Need" within Australia
- Apply to the relevant State/Territory Medical Board or Council for medical registration
- Apply for a visa and pass the required character, police and medical checks. See National Identification Policy
- Obtain Medical Indemnity cover in Australia
- Obtain a Medicare Provider Number in Australia
Essential requirements for working at Toukley Family Practice are:
- Recognised vocational training in general practice OR a minimum of 5 years general practice experience
Preferred qualifications and experience include:
- MRCGP or equivalent;
- Experience in A & E, paediatrics, O & G;
- Patience, a good work ethic and a sense of humour
It is important to note that Doctors who wish to practice in Australia must first be registered with the Medical Board in the State or Territory where they intend to practice.
